TELL OUR LEGISLATORS TO VOTE NO ON BILL 7070!

NO TAX DOLLARS FOR PRIVATE SCHOOL VOUCHERS!
The Florida Legislature and Governor are preparing to fund a voucher program where our property tax dollars can be used by families to send their children to private schools. This bill is unconstitutional for a number of reasons (private schools are not subject to the same standards as our public schools; and they do not have to accept all students, enabling discriminatory practices). While proponents of the bill claim it is intended to help low-income families, it is not designed to meet this objective considering that families making more than the state median income would be eligible for vouchers. Moreover, our public schools are sorely underfunded and our teacher salaries are 46th lowest in the nation! Our tax dollars should be spent on enhancing our public school system instead of this voucher program.
The Senate Education Committee already voted Bill 7070 out of committee so it is now waiting for a budget agreement before being voted on by the entire Legislature. It is widely expected to pass since DeSantis is a strong proponent.
Between now and a final vote which could happen very soon, please join us in calling our legislators and expressing our opposition! The only way to stop this unconstitutional use of public dollars is to make sure our legislators know how we feel about it and that we will hold them accountable.
