HELP DRUG COURT
KEEP OFFENDERS MOTIVATED
JUST A SMALL INCENTIVE
MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE:

Donate gift cards/certificates for Drug Court incentives. More often
than not, incentives like a gift certificate to a movie or event can remind
a struggling drug offender that there’s fun and beauty to be had in life
if they can stay clean. These or check donations can be dropped off to
St. Johns Legal Aid anytime Monday through Friday 8:30am-5:00pm
or mailed to
Jacksonville Area Legal Aid
222 San Marco Avenue
St Augustine FL 32084

Please be sure they are marked/noted as
"to Megan Wall for Drug Court."

Message from Megan Wall, Attorney:

Hello friends--if you or your faith organizations or civic organizations or friends or anyone can assist with donations to the Drug Court participants that would be overwhelmingly wonderful!  $10, $15, $20 gift certificates for gas, food, even wholesome activities like bowling or movies (instead of drugs and using) would be most helpful to their recovery.  Judge Christine runs this program and would like to have some "rewards" (instead of just punishment and stays in jail and such) to incentivize these recovering folks with their treatment  Thanks so much--Megan

STAY for James Dailey!

Statement of Attorney for James Dailey in response to the U.S. District Court
for the Middle District of Florida’s Grant of a
Stay of Execution until December 30, 2019:

“We are grateful that the U.S. District Court for the Middle District has granted
a stay to allow Mr. Dailey's newly appointed federal counsel time to present
his new and substantial claims of innocence, so that they may finally
be heard on the merits.
We urge the Attorney General and Governor DeSantis not to appeal or
otherwise oppose this limited stay in order to allow Mr. Dailey’s case to proceed
under the timeline directed by the Court.”
-- Carol Wright, Chief Attorney, Capital Habeas Unit, Middle District of Florida

SO WHAT’S HAPPENING WITH AMENDMENT 4
AND WHAT YOU CAN DO

This article addresses the question about actions County SOE‘s must take
to implement provisions in SB7066 that limit the restoration of
Voting rights to returning citizens.

The effective date of this bill was over one year ago and the FL Secretary of State is still struggling with how to gather court data on felony convictions and payments of fines and restitution.

A State court has already expressed its reservations and may overturn this law.
According to Senator Bradley, the Legislature may be forced to address this issue again in 2020. It's currently blocked by a judge but...

HB6007 has already been filed to remove language requiring full payment of certain fines & fees.  A companion bill in the Senate is needed.
SO, CALL SENATOR HUTSON AND TELL HIM
HONOR THE WILL OF THE VOTERS AND
FILE A COMPANION BILL.

Blue Wave Coalition of St. Johns County
Fall NPA Outreach Canvass

St. Johns County has nearly as many non-party affiliated (NPA) voters
as Democrats, but many of them are left-leaning. Join us as
we reach out to left-leaning NPAs
and offer them the opportunity to change parties so they can vote in the
 March Presidential Preference Primary!
As a canvasser, you will be paired with another person and visit
just 20 homes of targeted voters.
All training and materials will be provided, along with
 snacks and refreshments.

We will use a strategy that will help us first identify whether the voter
is a Trump supporter. If they are not, we'll remind them that Florida
is a closed primary state and if they would like to help Democrats
pick someone to oppose him, they need to register as a DEM.

We will have voter registration forms on hand to facilitate party changes.
We are likely to have some pretty interesting conversations!
Let's have fun experimenting with this strategy -- Blue Tsunami's all around
for returning canvassers!

Indivisible St Johns Newsletter Week of October 13, 2019

 YOUR WEEKLY RESISTANCE NEWSLETTER
WEEK OF OCTOBER 13, 2019

We're gonna be frank. We need some help from you. We understand
you get way too many requests to do something, somewhere, sometime. We've had a busy year with a small but dedicated team
of leaders. For the last few newsletters, we've asked for you to email
us to help us out. No one has responded. For a reminder, we're listing
most of the things we've brought to you this year. Some are missing in
the blur of activity everywhere. It takes thought, time and energy to make these happen. We will not be able to sustain this pace without your help. Consider what just 3-4 people pulled off this year:

INDIVISIBLE SPEAKERS 2019

JANUARY             Jen Lomberk, Matanzas Riverkeeper, Sea level rise
                            and pollution
FEBRUARY           Jen Cowart, MD, Medicaid Expansion
MARCH                 Pam Roines, League of Women Voters, National                                         Popular Vote movement
APRIL                   Gina Duncan, Equality Florida, Transgender Rights
MAY                      FL League of Conservation Voters, Sea level rise
                             and climate change
JUNE                    Michelle Dillon, President SJC teachers union,
                             Public and charter schools
JULY/AUG            No meetings
SEPTEMBER         Dr Dale Anderson, Speaker , How Fascism Works
OCTOBER             Voter Suppression  Best Democracy Money Can Buy

INDIVISIBLE ACTIONS 2019

We co sponsored the March for Our Lives, we marched
in the MLK Day parade
We collected Medicaid Expansion petitions at the farmers market twice
We went to Tallahassee to advocate for Indivisible values

We participated in rallies for LGBTQ, Families Belong
Together Rally, Lights for Liberty co Sponsor, protest on
International Childrens Day, co sponsored Climate change
student march and organized the Rockin Our Rights event
among other actions.

We held socials at local restaurants once a month.

If there are other things you want, tell us. We tried to respond to everyone's requests this year. We will not be able to do this level of activity unless we get your help. Don't assume someone else will
sign up. They don't. It's on all of us to continue the resistance. Please.

Gov. DeSantis Signs Death Warrant for

FL Execution #100

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a Death Warrant and scheduled

the execution of James Dailey for Thursday, November 7 at 6:00PM ET

Dailey was convicted and sentenced to death for the 1985 killing of Shelly Boggio in Pinellas County.

This would be the 100th FLORIDA EXECUTION since the death penalty

restarted in 1970’s. During that time, there have been 29 INNOCENT
PEOPLE EXONERATED and released from Florida's Death Row -
nearly ONE exoneration for every THREE executions.

Please contact FL Gov. Ron DeSantis NOW and urge him to halt
the execution and Sign No More Death Warrants.

The State of Florida is continuing to execute people,
IN OUR NAME,
who were sentenced to death under a now-unconstitutional
death sentencing scheme.

Phone: 850-488-7146 (Mon-Fri 8am-5pm ET)
