INDIVISIBLE ST JOHNS GENERAL MEETING
TOPIC: A CELEBRATION OF A WOMAN’S RIGHT TO VOTE
WITH THE SHOWING OF THE FILM "IRON JAWED ANGELS"
MARCH 5, 2020 AT 6:30 PM
UNIVERSALIST UNITARIAN FELLOWSHIP HALL.

Thursday, March 5, 2020. Indivisible St Johns will hold its general meeting at the UU Fellowship from  6:30 PM to 8:30 PM. The UU Fellowship hall is located at 2487 A1A South, Saint Augustine FL 32080.

This meeting will be recognizing the women's  Suffrage Movement and the ratification of the 19th amendment 100 years ago with the showing of the film Iron Jawed Angels. The film is about Alice Paul and Lucy Burns, two defiant suffragist women who were both instrumental advocates to secure passage of the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution, which granted women the right to vote in 1920.

Ladies (and gentlemen), grab a friend or two and come to watch this compelling film.  We need to energize every woman to exercise the right these brave women fought for.

The meetings are open to the public as part of our civic education series. Indivisible St Johns is a non-partisan organization focused on issues involving the economy, the environment, healthcare, social justice and good government. We work to hold our elected officials accountable at the federal, state and local levels.

Witness at the Border, originally Witness At Tornillo, is a movement that began with one person. Josh Rubin started this movement as a means to be the eyes, ears, and voice for people who only want to live safely in a country to which they can contribute and thrive. We are the Boots on the Ground, protesting, watching, and conveying information that is not readily available to most Americans. We do this so that people will know and will act on what they know.

NEVER STOP TALKING ABOUT THIS:

CALL YOUR REP AND SENATORS!

On Monday, the DOJ made their sentencing recommendations in the Roger Stone case, based on the face that he is actually a criminal who lied under oath. Overnight on Monday, Trump tweeted out the unfairness of the sentencing recommendation.

Tuesday, the DOJ announced a revision to the recommendation. Then, the four DOJ prosecutors resigned in protest of the intervention of Attorney General William Barr.

Then Barr announced that that he will be controlling all aspects of cases related to Trump (like the Stone case) which Trump is pleased about. Barr has agreed to testify before the House Judiciary Committee on March 31, but that seems much later than needed.  Regardless of Barr’s willingness to testify, this is a disturbing and dangerous politicization of the DOJ and is not the behavior of democracies.

Minimal script: I’m calling from [zip code] and I want Sen/Rep [___] to know that we are very concerned about the following unacceptable actions by Attorney General Bill Barr:

·         setting up a Giuliani information backchannel

·         taking over all Trump-related cases (how can we even be saying this!)

·         slashing Roger Stone’s sentencing recommendations

STAND OUT!
WHO IS THIS GUY???
Meet Daniel Uhlfelder, standing up to bullies
in Northwest Florida of all places.

In 2019, former Republican Arkansas Governor turned Florida Panhandle Man, Mike Huckabee, filed a bar complaint against Florida attorney and activist, Daniel W. Uhlfelder, in an attempt to silence him for speaking out against Huckabee’s attempts to privatize public beaches.
The complaint, widely panned as frivolous in a very-special-snowflake kind of way, has had the most opposite of likely intended consequences, however, as Uhlfelder saw his online following mushroom and has been emboldened to form a new Super PAC which will aid others targeted by high profile bullies.
“It’s important to stand up to bullies,” says Uhlfelder. “Weakness just invites further aggression.”
Huckabee’s bar complaint was officially made in retaliation for Uhlfelder posting tweets to his 400 or so followers which were critical of connections between the former governor’s role in the Florida customary use battle that has radiated outward across the state from the panhandle’s South Walton County where Huckabee owns property on the Gulf of Mexico.
Calling him a #BeachThief, Uhlfelder had been highly critical of the many documented connections between Huckabee and the passage of the bill. Known locally as the Huckabee Law and the #BadBeachBill, HB631 was signed by former Governor Rick Scott despite his office having received 8 to 1 calls against it.
Huckabee, who bought beachfront knowing people would walk across the sand behind his home, has waged a well documented effort (covered extensively by Florida reporter Steve Bousquet and Stephanie Mencimer of Mother Jones) to thwart multiple local rules and customs.

YEP, THE STATE OF FLORIDA IS
SCREWING UP AGAIN
OPPOSE SB 1634, SB 1794, and SB 7062

SB 1634           Stargel           Parental Rights       Forces school teachers and counselors to out students, putting LGBTQ students in harm’s way. Makes accessing healthcare or counseling more difficult for LGBTQ youth, and may lead to removal of any topic a parent says is “harmful” from school curricula.   (HB 1059)

SB 1794         Hutson           Constitutional Amendments Proposed by Initiative
Limits citizens abilities to place initiatives on the ballot; decreases the time period for getting signatures from 2 years to 1; requires petitioners to register as a PAC and places undue burdens on Supervisors of Elections, the Courts and citizens.       (HB 7037)

SB 7062         Judiciary       Citizen Initiative       Raises threshold requirements for the number of petitions signed by electors needed in order for a citizen initiative to amend or revise the State Constitution. Severely limits citizens abilities to place initiatives on the ballot

VALENTINE'S DAY IN THE ST AUGUSTINE RECORD:

IDES OF TRUMP POSTCARD PARTY
MARCH 5 2:00PM
SCRIPT FOR POSTCARDS
On March 15th, each of us will mail Donald Trump a postcard that publicly expresses our opposition to him. And we, in vast numbers, from all corners of the world, will overwhelm the man with his unpopularity and failure. We will show the media and the politicians what standing with him — and against us — means. And most importantly, we will bury the White House post office in pink slips, all informing Donnie that he’s fired.
Each of us — every protester from every march, each congress calling citizen, every boycotter, volunteer, donor, and petition signer — if each of us writes even a single postcard and we put them all in the mail on the same day, March 15th, well: you do the math.
No alternative fact or Russian translation will explain away our record-breaking, officially-verifiable, warehouse-filling flood of fury. Hank Aaron currently holds the record for fan mail, having received 900,000 pieces in a year. We’re setting a new record: over a million pieces in a day, with not a single nice thing to say.
So sharpen your wit, unsheathe your writing implements, and see if your sincerest ill-wishes can pierce Donald’s famously thin skin.

Prepare for March 15th, 2020, a day hereafter to be known as #TheIdesOfTrump
Write one postcard. Write a dozen! Take a picture and post it on social media tagged with #TheIdesOfTrump ! Spread the word! Everyone on Earth should let Donnie know how he’s doing. They can’t build a wall high enough to stop the mail.
Then, on March 15th, mail your messages to:
President (for now) Donald J. Trump
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500

STOP PUD FOR RIBERIA STREET

According to Reuben Franklin, our Public Works Director, Riberia St. is termed a “collector street.”  That means smaller cross streets in Lincolnville and Model Land neighborhoods feed into Riberia, “collecting” cars as they make their way towards King Street to get out onto US1.  Part of the Sebastian Harbor PUD specifies a 165 unit apartment building and parking garage to be built just south of the intersection of Riberia and King St.  PUD developers project this garage will generate an extra 1,200 trips a day added to the trolleys and trains already there.

No matter where you live in St. Augustine, If you’re concerned about encountering a big traffic jam every time you come to this busy intersection, you’re welcome to the yard sign, below.  Contact, sagresta@comcast.net to ask for one. (We’re asking for a $2 donation to defray the printing/shipping cost.)
