WHAT IS YOUR PASSION? EXCITING NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR WORKING FOR CHANGE!

Indivisible St Johns is building communities of interest groups to further our mission of resistance and positive change. We’ve set up 8 interest groups and want our members to put their talent and time towards the issues that matter most to them.  The groups are:
SOCIAL JUSTICE: This will involve any situations, legislation or advocacy for civil rights for minorities, LGBTQ, over policing and incarceration, death penalty and felons’ rights as well as violations of First and Fourth Amendment rights.
ENVIRONMENT: Florida is a fragile state. Issues relating to seismic testing, drilling, fracking and sea level rise as well as our quality of air and water are just some of the things we need to work on. We can’t count on the EPA anymore.
HEALTHCARE: Indivisible St Johns believes health care is a human right. Single payer, saving Medicaid, Medicare and fixing the ACA are some issues this group could tackle.
EDUCATION: Recent legislation diverting tax dollars to charter, private and religious schools deserves serious scrutiny and watching. Teachers need our support as do several schools in certain areas. Women’s March has an education coalition you can partner with.
ECONOMIC JUSTICE: This takes a hard look at economic inequality and how we got here, what needs to change. Consideration of a public bank, repeal of Citizens United, campaign financing, corporatism, poverty and unionization are some topics to be worked on.
MILITARISM: Privatization of the VA, veterans issues in general, military recruitment in our schools and huge increases in federal budget for defense while letting our people and infrastructure decline are things we need to change.
GOOD GOVERNMENT: Scrutiny of candidates, local ordinances and city and county decision making is necessary as well as advocacy for good policies and against bad ones. The county is growing too quickly and some hard decisions need to be made and politicians held accountable. The FL Constitution is under revision and we’re already monitoring it for the 2018 ballot. Input is necessary.
FUNdraising: This group is for all those artists, musicians, techies and all round fun people who want to get creative and provide artistic expression for the resistance. Making some money is secondary to bringing out the best of us and our huge pool of talent. Setting up monthly social events is one way to bring us all together.
Each group has a steering committee member assigned to set up the first meeting, help get you organized and be your liaison to the steering committee if you need any kind of support for your ideas or actions: publicity, funding or connection with other groups/resources. All you need to do is email to one of the following accounts and you’ll be contacted by your steering member with a welcome and details for the first meeting.
