We also want to invite you to our upcoming Dr. John M. DeGrove Webinars, including one at noon on Wednesday, February 20 focusing on Planning for Community Resilience and Historic Preservation.  More information is included below.

Please stay informed and stay engaged.  Many critical issues are facing our state and we need all hands on deck!

The nation's oldest continuously occupied European city, St. Augustine is characterized with a built environment of iconic historic landmarks, districts and neighborhoods of national and international significance. The city is a major tourist destination for this reason, but it also is a dynamic community of residents as stakeholders in resilience efforts. With its low-lying coastal location and most of the city located in a flood zone, St. Augustine and its many historic and cultural resources are particularly vulnerable to the impacts of coastal flooding from sea level rise and natural disasters. This webinar focuses on the City of St. Augustine's multifaceted approach to coastal resilience, with a special emphasis on protecting its historic and natural resources in a community with a population of less than 15,000 people. Speakers include Historic Preservation Officer Jenny Wolfe, City Attorney Isabelle Lopez, and City Stormwater Engineer Jessica Beach. The City of St. Augustine, with Flagler College and the University of Florida, is also one of the sponsors for the upcoming national conference, Keeping History Above Water, to be held May 5 - May 8, 2019 in St. Augustine.
This event has been approved for 1.5 AICP CM (#9170047) for planners and 1 CEC for Certified Floodplain Managers. 1000 Friends has applied for professional certification credits for Florida attorneys and Florida DBPR Landscape Architects but cannot guarantee that credits will be offered.
