CALLS TO ACTION:
Restoring Voting Rights for Felons. Call your legislators to say Florida voters voted by 64 percent to restore voting rights to most felons (exceptions for murderers and felony sex offenders). Don't let legislators tie this up by using ambiguities to slow down the process of restoring voting rights to felons.
Trump's National 'emergency' is an illegal, anti-democratic power grab rooted in racism.
House and Senate Dems will introduce a resolution of disapproval in the next few days to block Trump's emergency declaration, which has a good chance of passing both chambers of Congress and being sent to Trump, who is sure to issue his first veto. Republican leaders in both Chambers vow to sustain Mr. Trump's veto.
We’ve got to let every single member of Congress know that they need to fight back. Here’s how:
- Call your MoCs or call or use our toll-free number: 1-855-980-2355 to tell them to reject Trump’s fake emergency. Congress has an obligation to check Executive Branch abuses. They need to act to protect our democracy by overriding a certain veto of the resolution of disapproval of the national emergency declaration.
- Read more on how you can demand Congress launch investigations into this abuse of power. With their new oversight powers in the House, Democrats should immediately schedule hearings and investigations into Trump’s illegal power grab. Learn more from Indivisible resources.

INDIVISIBLE ROLLS OUT NEW STATE-LEVEL STRATEGY
Taking our fight to state legislatures around the country, we’re rolling out new strategies and support to remake our democracy and circumvent Trump’s agenda, state by state -- all 50 of them.
The backstory
For decades, Republicans entrenched their power by artfully taking over state legislatures. They weaponized their control to roll back voting protections, institute suppressive voting rules, and gerrymander district lines to maintain GOP power while losing popularity.
And it worked... until we built the blue wave, which swept the House and State Houses, too. We won:
✅ 350+ state legislative seats
✅ 7 new governorships
✅ 7 state legislative chambers
✅ 6 Democratic supermajorities
✅ 6 Democratic trifectas (total one-party control of the state government)
The opportunity
With the state-level wins we scored in 2018, we have new leverage for states to stop Trump’s agenda, turn back the Republicans’ damage, and go on offense to advance bold progressive ideas and policies that’ll shape the progressive landscape in 2019, 2020, and beyond.
To save our democracy, we have to organize at the state level. Our federal work will continue, but taking our fight to the state level, we can:
Expand voting rights
Draw fair district lines
Protect communities under attack by the Trump administration
Demonstrate our bold, progressive vision for the future
What it’ll take
💪Mighty organizing support from our team. We’re doubling our organizing team (to the tune of 14 organizers, 3 training organizers, and 2 digital organizers) to provide critical support to strengthen statewide coalitions, coordinate actions, lead targeted online and in-person trainings on state advocacy tactics, and more.
💪Strategic policy guidance. We’ve hired 3 policy staff to help strategize full campaigns from start to finish, identify and track priority legislation, develop targeted policy resources to help Indivisibles take action, and organize strategy calls.
💪Innovative digital and communications support. We’re hiring 3 communications staffers to propel massive online engagement in the states, provide email and text recruitment for events, and amplify campaigns via the press.
💪Critical state and local legislation tracking tools. We’ll be using the best software available to provide important bill tracking and updates to groups carrying out state-level work on the ground.
Coming soon.... how we all can contribute

This Black History Month, we’re celebrating hundreds of years of Black history -- and acknowledging the past and present of an economy and a tax code that has been rigged disproportionately against Black communities.
After hundreds of years of Black American struggle, activism, and achievement:
- On average, Black workers’ wages are still only 75% of their white counterparts
- White households headed by high school dropouts attain more wealth than Black households led by college graduates
- Of the nearly $275 billion in tax breaks provided to individuals by the GOP Tax Scam last year, about 80% of the benefits went to white households

CALLS TO ACTION:
Trump's National 'emergency' is an illegal, anti-democratic power grab rooted in racism. The only emergency at the border is the one created by Trump and the Republicans enabling his temper tantrum.
Take your energy to the streets On Monday, February 18, Indivisible is joining MoveOn, Win Without War, and CREDO in a mass mobilization to call on Congress to act on Trump’s fake national emergency. We’ve got to let every single member of Congress know that they need to fight back. Here’s how:
- Join MoveOn, Win Without War, CREDO, and more at an event near you to call on Congress to put an end to Trump’s fake national emergency. You can text “MOBILIZE” to 977-79 to get updates and the national event map when it’s live!
- Call your MoCs and tell them to reject Trump’s fake emergency. Congress has an obligation to check Executive Branch abuses, and there is a clear path for them to do this. They need to act to protect our democracy by passing a resolution to terminate this phony emergency and protect the people (the majority of whom reject Trump’s vanity wall)
- Read more on how you can demand Congress launch investigations into this abuse of power. With their new oversight powers in the House, Democrats should immediately schedule hearings and investigations into Trump’s illegal power grab.

UPDATES AND FURTHER ACTIONS
Visit your local legislators. On Wednesday, February 13th, two members of Indivisible St. Johns, Andrea D. and Laurie H., visited the district office of Representative Cyndi Stevenson. The purpose of the meeting was to formally introduce Indivisible St. Johns and establish a regular meeting schedule so that our progressive values could be communicated to Rep. Stevenson. We met with Stevenson's district secretary, Shorty Robbins to discuss our topics of concern and bill numbers to go along with many of those topics. These included: Public Health, Gun Safety, Education, LGBTQI, Voting, Clean Water and Renewable Energy, among others. We discussed SB 350 (which aims to address affordable housing specifically through impact fees) and Medicaid Expansion. Ms. Robbins assured us that affordable housing was a topic often discussed in Stevenson's office. Ms. Robinson will be bringing up both topics with Stevenson and reporting back to us. We have established a bi-weekly schedule so the next meeting with Stevenson's office is 2/27/19 at 10 AM.
Everyone who is a constituent of Cyndi Stevenson is encouraged to attend! Please email andrea.degeorge@gmail.com if you are interested.
Medicaid Expansion petition drive continues Saturday February 23 at the St Augustine Famer's Market from 8.30 to 12.30. Anyone who wants to help out can email andrea.degeorge@gmail.com with their preferred time slot.
