Dear Indivisible National,
We write to you today as leaders of Indivisible Groups from all over the country. We are proud to be a part of the Indivisible resistance movement, which has seen much success these past two years. We’ve engaged in electoral politics, and we’ve seen the difference we made in the 2018 Midterms, as well as state and local elections. We’ve moved beyond just resistance to a mission equally focused on rebuilding our Democracy by advocating for progressive legislation and electing representatives who align with our views within our local districts. We believe our strength lies in the ability for each group to determine what is best for them at the local and statewide level and we support each other in these decisions. We appreciate the guidance, support and tools we receive from Indivisible National and equally appreciate the independence of local Indivisibles to use those resources to best fit our own needs.
Just as we value our independence in resistance actions, we feel that independence must also apply to candidate endorsements. We feel it is best left for each individual group to make its own endorsement decisions, based on our own specific electoral challenges.
With that in mind, we respectfully ask that Indivisible National NOT endorse any candidate in the Democratic Party presidential primary. With such a large field of candidates, we run the risk of sowing discord and alienating members. We don't want to be put in the position of having to defend an Indivisible National endorsement if we cannot embrace it as our own. And we want to avoid any media stories about infighting within Indivisible.
2020 will be an enormous challenge and an exciting opportunity for the Democratic Party and Indivisible. We all agree that electing a Democrat for President and capturing the Senate majority are the most important tasks we have tackled thus far. Failure is not an option.
Democrats and Progressives must unify, especially in light of all those who will seek to divide us. The ultimate goal is to elect a president who adheres to a progressive vision for the country. We look to Indivisible National to offer a progressive platform and agenda as well as tools and support to all of us in the field. As National has stated, by continuing to “embrace our grassroots and hyper-local model to grab candidates’ attention, demand answers, listen, and push”, we will win.
