WEEK OF DECEMBER 13, 2020

IT'S ALL ABOUT GEORGIA!

From illegal voter purges to hundreds of poll closures to four-hour lines,
Georgia voters have faced a sophisticated, but hauntingly familiar
attack on their right to vote.  Hundreds of thousands of voters were
affected by poor election management and systematic
voter suppression, crippling Georgia's democracy.

Join the Fight. Best place to put your money to get staff on the ground. Stacy's group knows how to do this!

BUT!!! CLOSER TO HOME, WE HAVE A LOT OF WORK TO DO!

Legislative Delegation Meeting December 18, 2020

930AM-1130AM

These are our state legislators:  Travis Hutson, Senator; Paul Renner, Rep. Dist. 24,Cyndi Stevenson, Rep. Dist. 17.  These are the people we need to attempt to influence to see any laws change in the State of Florida, and this is how we do the "Act Locally" part of "Think Globally, Act Locally"

This St. Johns County Legislative Delegation will hold a meeting on Friday, December 18, 2020, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the St Johns County Commission Chamber Auditorium, located at 500 San Sebastian View, St Augustine.

Discussion of issues regarding local legislation for the 2021 Legislative Session will be held at this time.  If you have something you want to promote to your most local representative, this is your chance.  (Your editor spoke last year promoting laws which are in accord with home rule.)

  • If you would like to participate in the meeting during the public comment section, please contact Representative Stevenson’s office.
  • To be placed on the agenda for the December 18th meeting please contact Representative Stevenson’s District Office prior to December 14th, 2020.

We will be there asking about M-CORES (Roads to Ruin), healthcare, home rule  and education. We'd also like to know their positions on DeSantis' horrific "Combatting Violence, Disorder and Looting and Law Enforcement Protection Act" as well as any plans to alter the will of the people AGAIN by messing with the minimum wage amendment and when and how will redistricting take place and by whom? See? Lots of questions. If you want to speak, call NOW.

Start with the Bills-2021 tab.

When selecting issues from the Legislative Agenda to present to your legislators, you might want to first look up his or her committee assignments.  Your legislator may be more responsive to your calls for action if his or her particular interests mesh with the issues you are advocating.

AND OUR POSTCARD ADVOCACY GROUP

DOESN'T MESS AROUND!

A note from our tireless and fearless leader, Warren Clark:

Gov. Ron DeSantis, The State Capitol, Tallahassee, FL, 32399-0001  Ph. 850-488-7146

Rebekah Jones was fired for refusing to manipulate Covid-19 data for the state of FL.

She began publishing the real data on her own dashboard.

Then your officers raided her home at gunpoint.  (Video)

Sadly, Governor, I think you should resign.

Please pause the sale of Arctic Refuge oil and gas leases.

We the people voted for a different path on the environment.

The native Gwich’in People rely on the Refuge for subsistence and culture.

Will you remove tracts #1-#32 from consideration for leasing?

Donate so someone can get  a photo ID in Georgia and vote!

Videos: Spread the Vote  I used to think it wasn’t hard for people to get a photo ID.

A photo ID opens so many doors to:  food, shelter, health care, jobs, voting  …to a better life!

Comment: ”Thanks for sharing about 'Spread the Vote'! I donated today. I'm happy donating to campaigns, but wanted to also donate to unique programs that have an impact on people's lives as well.”  –J.C.

Good News! The VOTE FORWARD Georgia Campaigns were completely fulfilled! Millions of Georgia voters who do not vote consistently are receiving personal letters from other voters urging them to vote. We sent 775 letters. Additionally, several Indivisible St. Johns participants and members of the Peace & Justice Initiative of the United Church and Quakers downloaded names directly. WAY TO GO!

DEMOCRACY RISING

The time is now. It’s time for a massive overhaul of voting, money-in-politics, and ethics laws — all to make our democracy more inclusive.

The need to transform our democracy has become more evident as we reflect on the events leading up to the election across the country, including here in Florida, where we saw the disenfranchisement of returning citizens, dark money seeped into campaigns, and voter confidence was shaken.

Please join us by taking action:

JANUARY DEC MEETING

Thursday, January 21, 6:30 PM via ZOOM

All registered Democrats in St Johns County are welcome to attend the monthly meetings of the St. Johns County Democratic Party. At our first monthly meeting, we will announce opportunities for involvement, such as leading or serving on a committee, joining a club or caucus, becoming a precinct leader, or serving as a volunteer on a range of activities. Our tent is big, and everyone can have a role--small or large! Although voting on specific issues is restricted to duly elected and appointed Precinct Leaders, you have the option of lobbying yours on decisions that are important to you. Contact stjohnsdemocraticparty@gmail.com to learn who your Precinct Leaders are and how to reach them. We value all Democrats, so plan to join the conversation and contribute your input!
