HEADS UP ! WE NEED YOU AT THE CITY COMMISSION
AUGUST 26, 5PM
IN SUPPORT OF EJI’S EFFORTS AT RECONCILIATION

Almost a year ago to the day, a marker for Isaac Garrett was stolen before it could be dedicated as an historical site of his lynching out near the St Johns River. We now are bringing our request to have a new marker installed in the Plaza de la Constitucion where it will be safe. The first steps to reconciliation begin with recognizing and owning our history. For background, see: https://lynchinginamerica.eji.org/report/

We will be presenting the case to place the marker in the Plaza on 8/26 at 5 PM at the City Commissioners meeting. Gayle and Professor Butler will be speaking. We have heard there are counters preparing to argue against it. We ask you to attend and support if possible and attend. We do feel we have a good chance.

WEAR SOME WHITE AND SHOW UP TO SAVE GUANA
AGAIN!

This development would create polluted run-off into the Guana River and the GTM Research Reserve, and endanger this precious wildlife habitat. Whether or not you were at Tuesday evening's meeting, here are two ways you can participate in this this important local environmental cause:

WRITING EMAILS:
We're asking you to WRITE EMAILS NOW. Email addresses of local decision makers, and supportive points, are available at  https://www.saveguananow.org The Ponte Vedra Corporation, a subsidiary of the Gate Corporation, is the property owner that wants to develop the land.

ATTENDING PUBLIC MEETINGS:
The greater attendance we have, the better our chances we have of defeating this development.

• On Tuesday, September 17th, there will be a transmittal hearing at the Board of County Commissioners (BCC) meeting. This hearing will also be at the County Administration Building, in the morning, either 9:00 am or 10:00 am. The exact time will be posted at the above website when it is known; best to check the above website on Monday, September 16th. The white shirt request applies to this meeting, also.

Take a look at overgrown Woodlawn Cemetery on First Coast News. Volunteers can no longer do, and families cannot afford this major maintenance.
We, the County, could do the maintenance; I urge you to bring it up.
Will you visit the cemetery with local leaders?
