From our friend and vigilant observer of all things St Augustine, Lee Geanuleas:
On Tuesday, January 8th the Fish Island developers will
submit a proposal to the City of St Augustine Planning and Zoning Board
(PZB) to allow extensive tree clearing on the Fish Island to allow large
draining ditch/retention pond as indicated in the photograph below.
They are making this new request in order to build a
“temporary” linear retention pond to serve the proposed Fish Island
Village: a 20,056 sq ft commercial office center located south of SR
312– at the corner of SR 312 and Plantation Drive. If approved, this will
result in bulldozing and removing all trees in a linear path of destruction
50ft wide, totaling some 57,000 sq ft through the well-established tree canopy
and wildlife habitat on Fish Island land.
What Can You Do To Help?
If you don’t want to see another development like “Antigua”
on the South side of SR 312, then
please attend the PZB meeting at 2 PM on Tuesday January 8,
2019 in the Alcazar Room at
City Hall (75 King St.) to show your support for the
preservation of Fish Island or email the PZB
members urging them to deny the request to remove trees and
build a retention ditch on Fish
Island [Item 7(d) 2018-0167].
Here are the emails addresses for the PZB: pzb@citystaug.com, karen@97Park.com,
I recently found many useful information in your website especially this blog page. Among the lots of comments on your articles. Thanks for sharing.
