This one British poster sign says it all for us
This really hit home for us as we face immediate, in the streets actions over the SCOTUS fight, the Mueller investigation being in jeopardy and the immigration kids' plight. We have hundreds on our email lists and always get good turnouts for rallies and marches. Meetings, not so much, but many of us are up north for the summer or just don't like meetings and stay up to date over Facebook or through the weekly newsletter. We're grateful for whatever you can do: writing postcards, making the calls, visiting the congress critters and showing up at protests.
Many of us haven't been activists before or if we have, it's been decades since we took to the streets and the halls of power. Thanks to 9/11, things are different now: more security, tighter restrictions, enhanced penalties. We know the risks and we do it anyway. We're armed with ACLU lists of rights (easily obtainable from their website to download and share with your friends). We look at this protester's sign and realize many are going outside their comfort zone for the first time and it's scary. But what it also is is a tremendous opportunity for growth. We've surprised ourselves over and over since that dark November night in 2016. We now know we have truth on our side, becoming more evident everyday. Many of us have discovered leadership qualities we didn't know we had and it's empowering. Even better, when we mess up, hundreds of you have each other's back. That's grassroots power.
So even if you're like this brave Brit, consider what you'll do if we need to get fierce. Read articles and books on people who've put their lives either on hold for the resistance or on the line. Find out who you really are capable of being: a patriot, a dissenter, a courageous speaker, an organizer. We all bring different gifts to the movement. Find yours and share it. We're always looking for new leaders, new ideas and new strategies. Email us at indivisible.st.johns@gmail.com and join us as we get ready for the fight of our lives.
