The League of Women Voters

Empowering Voters. Defending Democracy.
Demand Action from thU.S. Senate on Democracy Reform

A year ago, we celebrated the passage of HR1, the For the People Act, in the U.S. House of Representatives. This sweeping piece of legislation is the biggest democracy reform agenda we have seen since the Voting Rights Act, but it still hasn’t made it to the President’s desk.
The For the People Act is the democracy reform bill the American people want and deserve. This legislation will put power back into the hands of American voters by making voting easier and more accessible and by modernizing our elections. It will also help voters understand who is trying to influence their vote by shining a light on big money donors. It’s time to pass this legislation and make it the law of the land.
We know we face an uphill battle in the Senate, but we also know that, because of the tremendous work we’ve already done to mobilize the effort around this bill, we can move this forward. Messages from our grassroots supporters helped put pressure on members of the U.S. House to support final passage of this legislation one year ago. We must keep up the pressure to move this forward and ensure this is at the forefront of  voters' minds in this important election year.
The American people deserve to know why their Senators don’t want to ensure every eligible citizen being able to register and vote. They deserve to know what harm will be caused by taking the politics out of redistricting. Finally, they deserve to know why we should allow big money interests to hide in the shadows and influence the votes of the American people.
This legislation isn’t a power grab by politicians, it’s a power grab by the American people.
Contact your Senators today. Tell them you stand with the League of Women Voters. Tell your Senators you demand a hearing on the For the People Act.

Our Senators are Sen. Rick Scott  202-224-5274

 and Sen. Marco Rubio  202-224-3042

Important article on the corona virus:
https://medium.com/@tomaspueyo/coronavirus-act-today-or-people-will-die-f4d3d9cd99ca

Here are the basic takeaways:

The coronavirus is coming to you.

It’s coming at an exponential speed: gradually, and then suddenly.
It’s a matter of days. Maybe a week or two.
When it does, your healthcare system will be overwhelmed.
Your fellow citizens will be treated in the hallways.
Exhausted healthcare workers will break down. Some will die.
They will have to decide which patient gets the oxygen and which one dies.
The only way to prevent this is social distancing today. Not tomorrow. Today.
That means keeping as many people home as possible, starting now.

Please--Wash your hands, often, and be safe!
