CALLS TO ACTION:

Trump's National 'emergency' is an illegal, anti-democratic power grab rooted in racism. The only emergency at the border is the one created by Trump and the Republicans enabling his temper tantrum.

Take your energy to the streets On Monday, February 18, Indivisible is joining MoveOn, Win Without War, and CREDO in a mass mobilization to call on Congress to act on Trump’s fake national emergency. We’ve got to let every single member of Congress know that they need to fight back. Here’s how:

  1. Join MoveOn, Win Without War, CREDO, and more at an event near you to call on Congress to put an end to Trump’s fake national emergency. You can text “MOBILIZE” to 977-79 to get updates and the national event map when it’s live!
  2. Call your MoCs and tell them to reject Trump’s fake emergency. Congress has an obligation to check Executive Branch abuses, and there is a clear path for them to do this. They need to act to protect our democracy by passing a resolution to terminate this phony emergency and protect the people (the majority of whom reject Trump’s vanity wall)
  3. Read more on how you can demand Congress launch investigations into this abuse of power. With their new oversight powers in the House, Democrats should immediately schedule hearings and investigations into Trump’s illegal power grab.

State v. Jennifer Desmond is going to trial on Tuesday February 19 before Judge Tinlin.  Jennifer is the homeless girl who has end stage cancer who has been harassed by St. Augustine Police and is charged with having an open container.  Please support Jennifer by attending the trial at  the county courthouse on 4010 Lewis Speedway off US 1 N.

UPDATES AND FURTHER ACTIONS

Visit your local legislators.  On Wednesday, February 13th, two members of Indivisible St. Johns, Andrea D. and Laurie H., visited the district office of Representative Cyndi Stevenson. The purpose of the meeting was to formally introduce Indivisible St. Johns and establish a regular meeting schedule so that our progressive values could be communicated to Rep. Stevenson. We met with Stevenson's district secretary, Shorty Robbins to discuss our topics of concern and bill numbers to go along with many of those topics. These included: Public Health, Gun Safety, Education, LGBTQI, Voting, Clean Water and Renewable Energy, among others. We discussed SB 350 (which aims to address affordable housing specifically through impact fees) and Medicaid Expansion. Ms. Robbins assured us that affordable housing was a topic often discussed in Stevenson's office. Ms. Robinson will be bringing up both topics with Stevenson and reporting back to us. We have established a bi-weekly schedule so the next meeting with Stevenson's office is 2/27/19 at 10 AM.

Everyone who is a constituent of Cyndi Stevenson is encouraged to attend! Please email   andrea.degeorge@gmail.com if you are interested.

Medicaid Expansion petition drive continues Saturday February 23 at the St Augustine Famer's Market from 8.30 to 12.30.  Anyone who wants to help out can email andrea.degeorge@gmail.com with their preferred time slot.

Restoring Voting Rights for Felons.  Call your legislators to say Florida voters voted by 64 percent to restore voting rights to most felons (exceptions for murderers and felony sex offenders).  Don't let legislators tie this up by using ambiguities to slow down the process of restoring voting rights to felons.
